Cranial fossae
The cranium is divided into three regions (fossae), according to the cranial lobes that each region houses.
- Anterior cranial fossa. This contains the frontal lobes and includes all of frontal and ethmoid bones, and the lesser wing of the sphenoid.
- Middle cranial fossa. This contains the temporal lobes and includes the greater wing of the sphenoid, sella turcica, and the majority of temporal bones.
- Posterior cranial fossa. This contains the occipital lobes, cerebellum, and medulla and includes the occipital bone.
