History of psychiatric terms
The following terms come up in the membership exams. You need to be familiar with the person associated with them:-
Please note: Some sources suggest that the term dementia praecox was only popularized by Kraepelin and that in fact it was first used in its Latin form by Arnold Pick in 1891. The orignial term demence precoce was first used by Morel in 1852. The College however seems set on rewriting history and suggests Kraepelin to be the person responsible for 'coining the term'.
We suggest that where it is written as demence precoce the answer should be Morel and where it is dementia praecox that one selects Kraepelin.
