Diazepam is 95% protein bound and highly lipid soluble meaning that it readily crosses the blood brain barrier. The absorption rate is slowed by the presence of food. It has a long half life of 20-100 hours.

Benzodiazepines (pharmacokinetics)

Benzodiazepines are absorbed well following oral administration. They show high plasma protein binding (95% for diazepam). They are mainly metabolised in the liver. They tend to be highly lipophilic and rapidly cross the blood brain barrier and placental barrier.
