Psychostimulants (side effects)


Psychostimulants are used in the treatment of ADHD, commonly used ones include:-

  • Dexamfetamine
  • Methylphenidate

Common side effects of stimulant medications include (Bates, 2009):- 

  • appetite suppression
  • sleep disturbance
  • abdominal pain

Uncommon side effects include:- 

  • weight loss
  • restricted growth
  • headache
  • worsening of tics
  • behavioural rebound
  • significantly raised blood pressure
