Codons
Three bases together comprise a codon, and each codon codes for an amino acid. There are 64 different triplet sequences (codons). Three of these specify the termination of the polypeptide chain and are called stop codons. That leaves 61 codons which code a total of 20 different amino acids, therefore, most of the amino acids are represented by more than one codon.
Amino acids are the structural units that make up proteins. They join together to form short polymer chains called peptides or longer chains called either polypeptides or proteins.
