Copy number variations
Portions of DNA have been found to vary in number, these are referred to as copy number variations (CNVs). Copies and deletions of portions of DNA have been observed resulting in either additional or fewer copies of certain genes. This in turn can effect the expression of certain genes and therefore can have significant effects on performance and health.
Most CNVs appear to be of no clinical significance. CNVs have however been associated with autism, schizophrenia, and idiopathic learning disability.
